This carpet in natural wool tone embodies both simplicity and sophistication.

All the raw materials used are of local origin: the wool comes from Churra Badana sheep, a breed distinguished by, among other things, its thick, long fleece strands.

Dona Fátima’s work is one of the best-kept treasures of Portuguese craftsmanship. Born in an isolated village in Northern Portugal, where she still lives today, she learned the wool trade from her mother.

She works exclusively with natural colours of the wool (deep white in this case) and shades created through blending, without the use of dyes or chemicals.

Another unique feature of this artisan lies in her complete control of the entire transformation process, from shearing to the final product. She washes and beats the wool, cards, combs, spins, winds, washes again, and weaves—all by herself. The size and various techniques are almost 100% customisable, within the limitations imposed by the traditional loom.
